Who we are

The PID lab conducts interdisciplinary research on human behavior and performance, and how they might be engineered to improve our lives.

We investigate technology and policy interventions that promote people’s health and well-being. Specifically, we aim to answer difficult questions: Can we design smart and engaging home-based rehabilitation interfaces to help patients regain their strength after an accident? Can we motivate people to exercise more using social interactions online? Can we establish quantitative methods to assist policymakers in making the right decisions for our society?

To answer these questions, we create data-driven models, design technological interfaces, and conduct controlled experiments with human participants. We use multidisciplinary methods from artificial intelligence, causal inference, control theory, data science, information theory, mechatronics, network science, and robotics to generate meaningful and applicable results.
